Obscured Releasing picks up NA rights to The Drug in Our Pocket before Hamptons world premiere
Obscured Releasing has acquired North American distribution rights to The Drug in Our Pocket, a documentary by Anne Sundberg produced with Beth Kojima. Deadline reports this exclusive deal.
The film is set to world-premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival in New York, with subsequent festival appearances at Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis and Newport Beach Film Festival in Southern California. The project is expected to pursue an Oscar-qualifying run this fall, followed by a limited theatrical release in early 2027.
The Drug in Our Pocket investigates how smartphones—though designed to connect us—have reshaped childhood, adolescence, and mental health. Through conversations with young people, parents, and experts, the film portrays a generation increasingly aware of how digital environments influence attention, emotions, and sense of self.
Director Anne Sundberg is joined by producer Beth Kojima, with Obscured Releasing aiming to engage audiences via festival exposure and targeted campaigns in its distribution approach.
