Curtis Lum to star in Milton Ng’s New Diamond Restaurant, a BC indie genre-bender
Deadline reports that Curtis Lum, known for The Night Agent and The Audacity, is in production in British Columbia on New Diamond Restaurant, an indie genre-bender from writer-director Milton Ng, who is making his feature debut.
The film blends zombie horror, action and family comedy. It follows Aaron Chan (Lum) as he returns home to tell his father he no longer wants to take over the family restaurant, but a zombie outbreak traps the family inside.
Set in the fictional prairie town of Saint-Legal, the story takes inspiration from Ng’s Alberta upbringing and explores threats outside the restaurant, old resentments and cultural expectations as the family fights to survive.
Along with Lum, the Chan clan includes Vincent Cheng, Phoebe Miu, Ng and Alannah Ong, with Aleks Paunovic, Morgan Taylor Campbell and Lochlyn Munro in supporting roles. Ng writes, directs and produces New Diamond Restaurant, with Lum executive producing; production is through Dear Hero Studios / New Diamond Film Inc.
The project is supported by Telefilm Canada and Creative BC, with Photon Films handling Canadian distribution.
Lum’s recent credits include Netflix’s The Night Agent (season 3) and Jonathan Glatzer’s The Audacity for AMC/AMC+. He has also appeared in Apple TV’s Invasion, The Agency: Central Intelligence for Paramount+ and the Freeform drama Siren. He is slated to appear next year in ABC’s The Rookie: North and Season 3 of Prime Video’s Cross, and in the Lionsgate action thriller Karoshi, alongside Cynthia Erivo and Teo Yoo. He is repped by Artium Talent and Trisko Talent in Canada.
