Avengers Endgame Encore Opens Global Re-Release with $86M, Shaping the MCU’s Box-Office Trajectory
Disney/Marvel Studio’s Avengers Endgame: Encore led the global box office this weekend with an $86 million opening in a re-release that spanned domestic and international markets, according to Deadline’s box-office reporting. The add-on run leverages renewed fan interest seven years after the original release and functioned partly as a preview for the Russo Brothers’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Of Encore’s $86 million worldwide take, about $13.7 million came from IMAX screens, with roughly $4 million of that domestic and $9.7 million from international markets. The domestic portion of Encore’s gross was cited as $26 million, illustrating a strong showing within the re-release landscape. Deadline notes that the move demonstrates a sizable, ongoing fanbase for the franchise and that the timing—as a seven-year-old title on Disney+—contributed to an impressive opening.
Endgame’s lifetime worldwide box office after this weekend rises to about $2.885 billion, placing the title just behind Avatar’s current $2.92 billion global total and ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s updated tally at roughly $2.495 billion.
In U.S. terms, Encore marked the third-best start for a re-release in history, behind Star Wars’ 1997 re-issue and The Lion King 3D’s 2011 run. Overseas, the re-release logged about $60 million, ranking as the second-highest foreign debut for a re-release and trailing only Titanic 3D (2012) at current rates.
Disney estimates Encore opened strongly in multiple markets: the film led as the top non-local in Japan and Spain and stood as a leading title in several other territories. It also reportedly achieved the highest-ever opening weekend for a Motion Picture Association (MPA) re-release in countries including the UK, Mexico and Brazil, among many others. Deadline also notes that, while Encore carried a few minutes of extra footage tied to Doomsday, the release primarily served to further the MCU’s global footprint rather than act solely as a standalone film release.
Beyond Endgame, Deadline’s report frames the weekend’s activity within a broader MCU context, highlighting the franchise’s cumulative box-office footprint of roughly $35 billion across 38 titles and reinforcing the enduring appeal of Marvel’s filmography to global audiences.
