Saturday Night Live’s Season 52 premiere ran into a coast-to-coast delay after college football carried its late start. An Oregon–USC clash at the LA Memorial Coliseum finished just over 15 minutes late, pushing many affiliates to begin the SNL broadcast roughly 16 minutes after the scheduled start time. The late-ending game was a contributing factor to the overall delay experienced by linear audiences in several markets.

Affiliates in Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Baltimore, Dallas and Charlotte were among those affected by the delay. In contrast, stations in New York, Boston, Washington, DC and Miami—areas that are owned and operated by the network—aired the episode live as scheduled. The show nonetheless remained available in real time on Peacock for viewers who watched online or on the streaming platform.

The premiere featured Ramy Youssef in the cold open as New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, with James Austin Johnson portraying President Donald Trump. Host Jalen Brunson delivered the monologue, and the piece notes he was aided by a contingent of teammates in the opening sequence, including Mikal Bridges, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart. New cast members Saidah Belo-Osagie and Grace Reiter were making their television debuts with early sketches.

The current SNL ensemble listed in the report includes Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Ashley Padilla, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Jane Wickline, with Belo-Osagie, Reiter, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson and Veronika Slowikowska serving as featured players. The article notes Katseye provided the musical guest duties for the premiere.

In addition to the delay narrative, the Oregon–USC game spotlighted a player development moment, noting that Ducks quarterback Dante Moore was carted off the field and taken to hospital by ambulance after a late hit. The report frames this as part of the broader scheduling disruption surrounding the SNL debut, which landed on Peacock rather than the later-starting linear feed in many markets.

Overall, the premiere’s timing pressures illustrate how live sports can ripple into late-night programming across the country, even as digital platforms offer an uninterrupted option for viewers who want to watch the episode in real time or on demand.
