Focus Features has released a second trailer for Werwulf, the Robert Eggers project, and announced an alternate reality game that will unfold in step with the film’s lunar motif. The game goes live on the day of the full moon and will run for three consecutive months, featuring a 24-hour online scavenger hunt in which participants must locate and decipher a hidden code on the film’s digital platforms before time runs out. Fans can sign up at DevourethAllMankynde.com, which is positioned as the entry point for the hunt and its clues.

Werwulf is described as a lycanthropy saga set in a 13th‑century English village, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead as a man who transforms into a werewolf each full moon. The cast also includes Willem Dafoe and Lily‑Rose Depp, with production design and period-appropriate language highlighted as hallmarks of Eggers’s approach. The project has roots in Eggers’s historic horror sensibilities and is positioned as one of his darker, more primal stories.

Footage for Werwulf was previously screened by Focus Features at CinemaCon, ahead of the second trailer’s release. The company has also signaled ongoing collaboration with Eggers on his upcoming Shakespeare adaptation, Romeo & Juliet. Inside the studio, Eggers discussed the tonal aim of the film, noting that he aimed to push himself toward writing the scariest thing he could produce and that the story would explore dark, taboo material within a historical framework.

The film is written by Eggers and frequent collaborator Sjón, with producers including Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Bernard Bellew, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Garrett Bird. An official synopsis frames Werwulf as “a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation, and the devil within.”

Werwulf arrives in theaters on December 25, with Focus Features handling distribution. A second trailer accompanying the reveal promises Eggers’s signature production design, language, and ensemble performances as a continuation of his Gothic cinematic outlook.
