Ina Garten says she’s never willing to do a biopic of her life
Ina Garten has repeatedly declined offers to turn her memoir into a feature film. In a People interview cited by Deadline, she said she’s “never been willing” to have a biopic about her life and noted she’d been approached to adapt Be Ready When The Luck Happens for the screen. Garten emphasized that the project would involve changing the story when translated to film, and she wants to avoid that. She said, “It’s my story. I get to keep it.”
The 2024 memoir Be Ready When The Luck Happens came after Garten ended the long-running Food Network series Barefoot Contessa in 2021. Since 2022, she has hosted Be My Guest from her East Hampton home, expanding her television presence beyond the original show.
What this implies for potential adaptations
The chef’s stance underscores a broader pattern among public figures guarding how their lives are portrayed on screen, showing a willingness to decline projects that would require altering personal narratives.
