NAZA trailer drops as Gaza documentary readies global release with free Guardian streaming
The Variety piece reports that The Guardian, JW Films and MK2 released the trailer for NAZA, a Gaza war documentary that won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival.
The film was shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv and examines killings of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. It will screen at the New York Film Festival and is slated for theatrical release in more than 50 territories. In a distinctive distribution move, the film will later be made available for free streaming to global audiences on The Guardian website in late November.
Globally, the distribution plan includes cinema screenings beginning September 28, with MK2 handling theatrical release in 56 territories since its Venice world premiere on September 10. The U.S. rollout is described as kicking off on September 30, exclusively at the IFC Center in New York City, led by The Guardian and MK2 with a team of partners and consultants to accelerate access.
Production and development notes indicate NAZA builds on revelations published by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and The Guardian between 2023 and 2025. Directors Abraham and Szor describe making the film as an obligation to examine the systems behind what they say is the mass killing of Palestinian civilians for which their country is held responsible. Filming on Tel Aviv rooftops over several years aimed to illuminate not only what is said but also what is left unsaid, according to the project description. The Guardian is noted as one of the producers coordinating the global rollout and partners involved in the effort.
