Ed Sheeran’s Gillette Stadium concerts canceled as nor’easter bears down on New England
Weather forces cancellation of Ed Sheeran at Gillette Stadium
Ed Sheeran’s Gillette Stadium concerts scheduled for tonight and Saturday have been canceled after officials warned of a nor’easter bearing down on New England, with heavy rain and gusty winds on the forecast in the Boston area. Messina Touring, the promoter for the tour, said the decision was made following consultations with local authorities and was taken to protect fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows.
Forecasts for Foxborough predict up to 2 inches of rain and wind gusts near 40 mph. Refunds are available at points of purchase, and ticketholders who bought through Ticketmaster will automatically receive refunds.
The cancellation is described as the latest disruption to Sheeran’s Loop tour. Deadline notes the tour has been enmeshed in controversy stemming from past actions surrounding Macklemore after he criticized pro-Palestine statements at a prior show; in response, Sheeran faced backlash and Macklemore later announced his own planned “Free Palestine” tour with proceeds directed to charities.
